Brief description of the position:

The Powertrain OBD Function Developer is responsible for the end-to-end development of on-board diagnostic strategies . The core purpose of the OBD system is to monitor the performance of these components and systems and to alert the driver of any malfunctions that could lead to increased emissions

 

Key tasks:

  • Lead the design, development and validation of the OBD Powertrain system, ensuring it integrates seamlessly with other powertrain components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software and systems engineering to deliver Powertrain OBD solutions. 
  • Develop and manage project timelines, milestones, and deliverables related to the OBD targets. Track the Feature development in order to fulfill time and quality. 
  • Coordinate to create detailed technical documentation and reports related to the VCU, including design specifications and testing results.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all diagnostic features comply with global OBD regulations (e.g., OBD-II, WWH-OBD). Prepare and submit official documentation to regulatory bodies.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including, diagnostic specifications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Interact and align with interface partners within the powertrain.
  • Performing individual task-related duties in accordance with the knowledge and experience of the position holder.
  • Advising other people holding positions at VCIC, its subsidiaries/associate companies, or cooperating organizations upon request and in consultation with the appropriate people responsible. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 5+ year working experience in powertrain OBD development.
  • Proven experience in powertrain systems engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and logical reasoning skill and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations and OBD principles and standards (i.e. SAEJ1979, J2012 ...) .
  • Knowledge of local (global is beneficial) emissions regulations and certification processes.
  • Understanding of automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, and UDS.
