Brief description of the OU / position:
The OU reports to the head of mechanical design department within the technical development VCTC Tianjin and is responsible for development of the mechanical design for e-drives including power electronics and dual clutch transmissions for MEB/MQB and MLB platforms in the region China for the “standard and non-metal parts”. The OU is responsible for development and industrialization of new projects/products as well as for the series support including implementation of continuous product optimizations for e-drives, dual clutch transmissions and its components for all the Group brands in the region China until EOP for the scope of responsibility.
This position oversees sub-department operations, team motivation, task distribution, and technical alignment.
Key Tasks:
Managing personnel (see personnel management tasks below:
- Responsible for internally and externally technical alignment (e.g. customers, suppliers and involved departments in Germany and VCTC)
- Supports technical rating of potential suppliers for prototype and series phase.
- Supports to define technical concepts and solutions for prototype and serial production.
- Supports product development according to ISO9001 and VDA6.1 and the goal of the ISO 9000 certification.
- Supports to implement technical changes on time and analyze product related problems in field and production line, while achieving field complaints targets at VW
- Evaluation and report for projects engineering costs for including budget and resources planning forecast (PR) for the scope of responsibility.
- Performing individual task-related duties in accordance with the knowledge and experience of the position holder.
- Advising other people holding positions at Company, its subsidiaries/associate companies, or cooperating organizations upon request and in consultation with the appropriate people responsible.
(Decision-making) authorities:
- The position holder prepare decision recommendations for the prototype supplier in part level for prototype build-ups
- Prepare and align the approval of P-, B-, K- and BMG-releases (according to the specific project job split) on ZP3/ZP4 level for dual clutch transmissions and e-drives
- Decision about technical solution definition based on results/feedbacks from concept works, simulation, tests and manufacturing
- Decision with regards to the distribution of available resources (personal and budget) for projects within the scope of responsibility in order to achieve targets (costs, timing) of the Group Componen
- Preparation of decisions and/or proposals for several suitable technical solutions for the scope of responsibility in committees within the VW Group and the Group Components
- Signature authority is provided in the applicable directories specified in respective Company Policy (No.14 Internal Signature Authorization).
Responsibilities:
- responsible for mechanical design of all parts within the scope of responsibility to achieve costs, robustness and reliability for the parts within the scope of responsibility.
- supports the product quality of all manufactured automatic gearboxes and e-drives in China market for the scope of responsibility.
- responsible for preparation and alignments for approval of P-, B-, K- and BMG-releases (according to the specific project job split) on ZP3/ZP4 level for dual clutch transmission.
- HC and budget planning, equipment planning and split between internal and external resources for the scope of responsibility
Essential Process Standards and regulations in the general operational framework:
- All generally applicable standards such as the Product Emergence Process (PEP), ISO 9001, and current Process Standards as per the Leadership Folder (FKO).
- This shall include, in particular, Volkswagen Group Code of Conduct, guidelines on environmental protection (Company Policy No. 45, Group Policy KRL17), the guideline on risk management and the internal control system (Company Policy No.23), and applicable occupational health and safety guidelines regulations and policies.
- In addition to this, applicable legal, and operational regulations, agreements, contracts, and Board of Management resolutions pertinent to the division must be complied with.

Qualification and skills required for the position:
- Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or comparable studies
- More than 5 working experiences in the technical development
- More than 3 years of project management experience in areas of technical development
- Leadership license / Fuehrungslizenz / MPE Pre-selection
- Leadership experience in China is advantage
- Experience in teaching, training and supervision of scientific work
- Intercultural affinity and ability to empower people
- Highly skilled with efficient management of complex projects with many stakeholders
- Highly self-organized
- Convincing, strong ability to negotiate and achieve WIN-WIN solutions
- Strong problem solving abilities in complex environment
- Able to communicate highly effective on different levels – from shop floor to top
- Language skills: Very good English, Chinese and German are a plus
- IT knowledge: Very good computer skills (MS office applications, particularly for Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel), knowledge for CAD-software (Creo/Catia) as well as for critical VW design
