The position holder is responsible for independent handling and steering of cost optimization projects throughout the whole product life cycle with the objective of identifying and realization of cost reduction potentials. Furthermore the responsibility comprises generating and representation of input in order to optimize product concepts in all phases of product development and in all relevant decision committees. This position also accounts for support of the further development of Value Engineering both on the methodological and technological side.

As a Value Engineer and Value Analyst Common Sourcing this position accounts sourcings for the scope defined in the tittle within VA/VE Organization, their alignment with the involved parties and representation in the relevant decision committees. The holder of this position is in the first line responsible for all scope relevant topics, that is topics which require deep knowledge and experience in these components and manufacturing processes in e-mobility.

This position is targeting at experienced specialists. Its aim is the cost transparency for the high cost components of these parts and cost improvement of these components in our strategic field of e-mobility.

Additionally this position owner coordinates the projects relevant for all Electronics/ Electromechanics topics and the work of the project team (also in a matrix organization).

Key Task and Responsibility:

• Independent initiating, planning and conducting of cost and profitability analysis of concepts and products basing on the technical and economical requirements. Validation of the results with the suppliers. This field requires deep technical knowledge of multiple automotive technologies, manufacturing processes and cost analysis competency.
• Independent conducting of negotiation support and identifying of cost reduction potentials within the awarding processes. Support in the VW Group negotiations of group packages.
• Independent definition of action fields. Representation of generated results and recommendations in the relevant committees, also on the Board of Management and Top Management level.
• Alignment of the processes and contents with Common Sourcing parties and representation of results in relevant committees (CSC, Pre-Meeting local, CSC Group, Pre-Meeting Group )
• Independent research and analysis of the innovative production and development processes. Ensuring of  the technological and cost transparency of new product groups in all PEP Phases (incl. Early Phase, Product Reviews, SET Reviews, Concept Reviews, Concept Competition Processes). This field requires high competency and experience for definition and implementation of new methods to calculate costs for new technologies and processes, especially in high-tech fields of e-mobility.
• Further development of methods, data, processes and systems of Value Engineering in China and their sustainable implementation. This field requires good knowledge of VW Group processes, systems as well as standards of VA/VE.
• Independent representation of the results and recommendations towards other company divisions (both in  Group and in China) as well as deriving and generating of decision recommendations for the related China and Group committees. Coordination of the cooperation and alignments with other divisions, entities, VWA and the Group for the China-related processes with focus on Common Sourcing. This field requires skills and knowledge of deriving action fields for technical concept optimizations, especially deep understanding of the technologies and manufacturing processes, especially in high-tech fields of e-mobility.
• Ensuring of cross functional cooperation for relevant topics with other company divisions in China, with VWA, with divisions in the VW Group and with VW Group wide divisions of Value Engineering.
• Ensuring and compliance of  the VA/VE standards and methods as well as Purchasing processes.
• Preparation of neutral and standard-based result presentations for the strategical and product decisions in the Group and China committees  (CSC, WOB-China-CSC, China-CSC, CSSC, TER, TOP-TER, C-VAT, C-VAD, Product Management Rounds).
• Coordination of external contactors, tracking and ensuring of on-time results as well as common representation of these.

Qualifications and Skills:

• University degree in engineering, process engineering (process technology) or mechanical engineering (manufacturing technology, construction), in-depth training e.g. Master / Phd desirable
• At least 5 years of working experience in the field of mechatronics/electronics in engineering or/and development.
• Knowledge of development and / or manufacturing processes in the fields of mechatronics/electronics, especially e-mobility.
• Knowledge of VW Group internal processes especially in the development and sourcing phase
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex issues at the interface of technology and business aspects
• Pragmatism and solution orientation
• Team spirit and enthusiasm for automotive and electro mobility
• Assertiveness and ability to work under pressure in a volatile environment
• Business English spoken and written – German language skills are an advantage
