MAIN GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Audi operates its business in China through joint ventures with two key partners. The role of Partner Strategy & Affairs is pivotal in shaping and advancing our joint venture collaborations in the Chinese market, maintain and develop the relations with our partners as well as steer and organize relevant interactions and communication between all partners across different management levels.
The Partner Strategy & Affairs role is responsible for the
- Monitoring and strategic guidance regarding the future development of Joint Venture and partner affairs in China
- Support for development and definition of the overall Joint Venture strategy as part of the overall Audi in China strategy
- Relationship management & daily liaison with JV partners and JVs
- Preparation, coordination and conduct of negotiations, committees, meetings, events and visits with/to JV partners
- Communication and alignment between all stakeholders relevant for Audi in China as well as within Volkswagen Group on regional level
RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS
- Relationship management with JV partners and JVs
- Systematically and transparently monitor relationships with JV partners and associated JV entities across all levels through deep personal relationships, supported by thorough stakeholder analysis and mapping
- Create a deep understanding of relevant movements and changes as well as the political environment of our JV partners and JVs
- Develop and maintain trustful relations with all JV partners and JVs across different (management) levels, working as the trusted, reliable and respected interface of Audi in China towards our JV partners and JVs and fostering open communication and collaboration
- Conduct relationship management through regular personal visits and exchange as well as planned, targeted interactions (e.g. for important events, occasions or festivals)
- Daily communication and liaison with JV partners and shareholder partners
- Support the development and definition of the overall Joint Venture strategy for Audi in China, incl. monitoring and strategic guidance regarding the future development of partner affairs and JVs in China
- Research/monitor, cluster and analyze information on our JV partners and their respective strategies and provide timely guidance on necessary actions
- In collaboration with C/GA-S, research, cluster and analyze information (e.g. market trends, competitor activities, regulatory changes, etc.) relevant for the further development of Joint Ventures in China
- Regularly review JV strategy based on regular tracking and in context of the Audi in China overall strategy (e.g. “Audi China 360” / Audi China 2030 Target Picture) and in alignment with C/GA-S and Head of C/GA
- Support operationalization of JV-relevant Audi in China Strategy in alignment and collaboration with C/GA-O and C/GA-S with the objective to sustainably implement the strategy across the organization and with JV partners/JVs
- Derive implications and relevant action plan for implementation of the JV strategy through Audi China and relevant functions
- Synchronize relevant information regularly with C/G, with AUDI AG (e.g. I/GJ), across functions in Audi China as well as with relevant functions across entities of VW group, especially C-C
- Preparation, coordination and conduct of negotiations, meetings, events and visits with/to JV partners
- Lead the preparation, coordination, conduct and follow-up of negotiations with JV partners and associated JV entities in a systematic and well-organized manner, ensuring alignment with company objectives and interest
- Closely collaborate and coordinate with relevant business units and teams (incl. Sales, Finance and Legal) to develop negotiation contents, negotiation strategies/tactics as well as review contractual documents and agreements (if applicable)
- Schedule, prepare, align and facilitate the preparation for JV committees such as BoD meetings, shareholder meetings, small circle meetings and other top level meetings for Audi related topics
- Record, align and distribute meeting minutes and/or protocols for relevant meetings and track decisions and tasks out of these
- Coordinate, organize and execute (top management) meetings, events and other engagements with JV partners and associated JV entities and ensure well-coordinated and smooth logistics and communication before, during and after such (events may take place in China or abroad)
- Support with professional translation/interpretation (Chinese, English, German) for different stakeholders including (top) management of Audi China and AUDI AG in negotiations and other joint venture and partner activities
- Communication and alignment between all stakeholders relevant for Audi in China as well as with Volkswagen Group on regional level
- Act as central contact for synchronization of Audi-relevant JV communication with related departments of Volkswagen Group / AUDI AG / Audi China / Joint Ventures (FAW-VW, NEV Co., SVW, ASC) / FAW / SAIC
- Ensure integration and synchronization of JV activities, strategic initiatives etc. with relevant functions in AUDI AG (I/GG, I/GJ, etc.), Audi China (C/E, C/V, C/R, etc.), VCIC (C-GG, C-C, …) and (if applicable) relevant departments of Audi in China JV companies, with the objective to create “one voice” and a consistent approach towards our JVs and partners
- Ensure regular bi-directional alignment of JV affairs-relevant contents and topics between Audi and Volkswagen Group / Region China, esp. in terms of synchronizing JV strategy
- Ensure smooth information flow at all times and be able to spontaneously give a current overview to the supervising management
Necessary education:
Bachelor Degree in Business Administration / Economics / Communication / Political Sciences or relevant related field
Personal skills:
- Proven experience in strategic management, business development, or corporate affairs within the automotive industry in China
- Strong communication and cooperation skills, especially intercultural mindset (German, Chinese), openness (especially to intercultural differences) and positive, constructive attitude
- Strong understanding of (Chinese) joint venture dynamics and cross-cultural communication
- Strong experience with Joint Venture collaboration, especially knowledge and understanding about Volkswagen Group and Audi Joint Ventures in China (personal network is a plus)
- Experience with corporate committees and shareholder interactions
- Strong political sense and high sense of integrity
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at various levels
- Strong interpersonal skills and capabilities for building network and trustful relations
- Well-structured way of working
- Exceptional organizational and coordination abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (Chinese, English and German), as well as professional writing skills (for official documents, business letters etc.)
- Cooperation skills and assertion skills (Team player)
- High energy and endurance
- Willingness and drive to continuously learn
Working experience (in years):
5-8 years
